If you have a dog with a behaviour issue, there are obedience schools and trainers, easy to find. If you have a cat with a behaviour issue, however, it's a common misbelief that a cat is too stubborn, independent, or even stupid to be taught. If a cat behaves in a way that drives you crazy, your only options are to endure it or get rid of the cat.

Cats can and do learn and adapt. They do not think the same way dogs do, however, so the techniques that work on dogs generally fail with cats. They need someone who specializes in the feline mind and who can find the middle ground between what the cat needs and what the cat's family needs. Most veterinarians lack the time to sit down at length and discuss everything that's happening with your cat, and anyway, the cost would be beyond the reach of most people.
